Chilean Marcelo Rios has pulled out of this year's Wimbledon championships due to personal reasons, organisers said today.

Rios, the former world number one, made the headlines last month when he was fined $10,000 by the ATP for his behaviour at a players' party during the Rome Masters tournament.

Towering German Alexander Popp, a surprise quarter-finalist at Wimbledon last year, has also pulled out of this year's championships.

Popp is suffering from a virus. Last year the tallest man on the men's tour beat Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten on the way to the last eight where he lost to Australian Pat Rafter in straight sets.
