CHILDCARE: what the inspectors said

ABC Montessori, Dundrum, Tipperary: "At the time of inspection..

ABC Montessori, Dundrum, Tipperary:"At the time of inspection... there was an electric fence running either side of the outdoor play area. This is a cause for concern considering there is always a risk of a child touching off the electric wires even while under supervised care."

Kinderland, Hollybank Lawn Clongowan, Waterford Road, Kilkenny

"At the time of inspection two children in the wobbler playroom and a baby in the baby playroom were sleeping in car seats. Car seats are not recommended as a sleep facility in a childcare setting as restraining harnesses can slip and cause hanging."

"The complaint centres around the management of a child who became ill in [ the] facility and later required hospitalisation. No member of staff present at the time had a valid first aid course. In addition medical assistance was not summonsed. This raises serious concerns."

"The electric sockets in the hall must be provided with covers . . . we observed two children playing with the uncovered sockets, which poses a hazard."

VEC Creche, Letterkenny, Donegal

"Hazards in the external play area, eg the stack of concrete slabs propped up against the fence must be removed so as to ensure the safety of a preschool child attending the service."
