Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly said today he will retire at the end of his current contract in two years' time.
The centre-back told France Football: "I'm 100 per cent sure that I will retire in 2004. That will be the final point of my career. I will be almost 36 and that will be enough. I want to see my kids grow up.
"I have a contract with Chelsea until 2004 and I will see it through," the Frenchman said. "I am still very ambitious but I will not sacrifice my family's happiness for my sporting ambition," he said.
Desailly has been with Chelsea since 1998. He moved to Stamford Bridge for £4.6 million sterling from AC Milan after starring for France in their World Cup-winning side.
