Rome - Strong earth tremors were felt in the central Italian region of Umbria and in Rome yesterday, three weeks after twin quakes devastated the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi. Seismologists in Rome confirmed that a fresh earthquake had been registered at 5.25 p.m. (4.25 p.m. Irish time). The quakes which hit Assisi, measuring 5.5 and 5.6 on the Richter scale, struck on September 26th and were followed by hundreds of aftershocks and several other powerful tremors.
