England's Paul Casey shot a nine-under-par 63 to lead the Tour Championship after the third round at the NSW Golf Club in Sydney today.

Casey holds a five-point lead over Australian playing partner Stuart Appleby in the modified stableford tournament. He registered nine birdies and an eagle spiced with two bogeys to move to 39 points on the par-72 oceanside course.

With the scoring system encouraging attacking play - eagles are worth five points, birdies two but bogeys only minus one - Casey's long hitting and adventurous strokemaking is ideally suited to the system.

"I think this format suits me - I wish every week was like this," he said.

The pair lead Sweden's Robert Karlsson on 31 points while Australian Nick O'Hern and England's Nick O'Dougherty are another point back.
