Gaelic Games:Tyrone legend Peter Canavan has been named as the new manager of Fermanagh following a meeting of the county board tonight in Enniskillen.
The way was made clear for his appointment when the other candidates pulled out of the race, with Canavan handed a three-year term with the Ulster county. A review will take place at the end of each year.
Canavan already has his management team in place, with Fermanagh native Kieran Donnelly taking on the role of trainer, while former Tyrone captain Enda Kilpatrick will be a selector.
“We are delighted to have Peter on board and wish him and the rest of the Fermanagh senior team the very best of luck,” read a statement issued by Fermanagh PRO Deirdre Donnelly.
It will be Canavan’s first inter-county management post, although the 40-year-old has enjoyed success leading his club Errigal Ciarán, with back-to-back league title in his three years as manager.
The two-time All-Ireland winner will have his work cut out with the Ernesiders, who endured a terrible summer on the pitch. They lost to Derry in the Ulster quarter-finals before being dumped out in the first round of qualifiers by London in Ruislip.
John O’Neill stepped aside at the end of summer, while a large number of seasoned players had already walked away during his term.
