Canada was not included in the 2009 season due to a dispute between local organisers, Grand Prix F1 du Canada and Formula One Administration (FOA), which holds the commercial rights to the F1 series.

"I never doubted that the Canadian race would regain its rightful place on the schedule, and my discussions with F1 management led me to believe that the event would return soon," he added.

Legault said, however, that he would not remain involved as a local promoter.

The Canadian Grand Prix had been part of the F1 world championship since 1967 and since 1982 has been held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
