Legislation to ensure that all drivers involved in a collision are tested for alcohol and drugs must be implemented immediately, road safety advocacy group Parc has said.

Speaking at the Parc (Public Against Road Carnage) annual general meeting in Dublin at the weekend, the organisation’s founder Susan Gray said there was great anger and frustration at the delay in passing the “life-saving” road safety legislation.

“Research tells us that alcohol is estimated to be a contributory factor in one out of four fatal crashes but because of the relatively low level of testing, we believe that this is a significant under-estimation,” Ms Gray said.
