Mr Shane Ross (Ind) said in the Seanad that everybody welcomed the capture of "the tyrant" Saddam Hussein.
However, the Seanad should debate the matter because it had a proud record on the issue of capital punishment.
He found it disgusting that the Americans should take the first opportunity to parade their approval of capital punishment in connection with this issue.
We should now protest to the US president that he should not portray himself as an arbiter of judgment.
