A bus driver in Northern Ireland has been set alight in an attempted robbery, police said today.

The driver was doused in a flammable liquid and set on fire in the incident in Portrush last night.

The attack happened after he refused to hand over money to a man leaving the bus in the Ballywillan Road area at about 10.50pm.

The driver was not injured in the incident though his clothes were burned. The attacker is described as having short hair and a stud earring. He was wearing jeans.

Police have appealed for anyone in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
