Three year old Aaron Thornton is still in a critical condition in Temple Street Children's Hospital after a fire at the family home in Coolock, Dublin, in which his mother, Paula, died.

It is believed that the fire started in the sittingroom of the flat, which is above a butcher's shop in the Edenmore Shopping Centre in Coolock.

A passerby raised the alarm shortly after 10.30 a.m. on Sunday morning when she saw smoke coming from the front windows. Ms Paula Thornton (26) was found in the kitchen of the flat. It is understood she died from smoke inhalation.
