MINISTER FOR Enterprise Richard Bruton is to brief the parliamentary Labour Party at its rooms in Leinster House today on his proposals to reform controversial wage-setting mechanisms in the hotel, catering, security and other sectors of industry.

Labour issued the invitation last week and a date for the meeting was agreed after the Minister’s return at the weekend from official business in the US.

A spokesman for Mr Bruton said: “This is simply the Minister briefing Labour Party colleagues on an issue within his remit. He would routinely do this on any issue within his areas of responsibility.”

The Minister is due to make his presentation to Cabinet on the issue next week and he has said he is confident his proposals will be approved.

Labour TD for Galway East, Colm Keaveney, said: “What is critical here is that the Labour Party must remain faithful to its natural constituency. In order to avoid an industrial relations crisis, the Minister must be prepared for an industrial relations solution.”
