The Fine Gael leader said in the Dail he accepted that the Attorney General had told him of the shares held by the chairman of the Moriarty tribunal in Cement Roadstone Holdings (CRH) but he could not recall it.

Mr John Bruton was speaking ail after discussions with Mr David Byrne. The Fine Gael leader also clarified a remark he had made earlier about the Green Party.

Mr Bruton said that Mr John Gormley (Green Party, Dublin South East) had earlier indicated that the Green Party had not been informed about shareholding.

"I had discussions with the Attorney General, Mr David Byrne, last night. In the course of those discussions, he told me that he had informed all of the party leaders. I accepted his word on that, as far as I was concerned, although I have no recollection of it.

"He also told me that he had arranged with the Taoiseach's office that they would inform the Green Party that Mr Justice Moriarty had disclosed his shareholding. That is what he told me and it was the basis for what I said this morning.

"Since then, I have spoken to Deputy Gormley with the Attorney General. Just as I accept Mr David Byrne's word on what he says occurred, I now accept the word given to me by Deputy Gormley to the effect that the Green Party was not informed of this. I accept that.

"I have no reason to doubt that Deputy Gormley is an absolutely truthful person just as I believe that the Attorney General is."
