Two teenage brothers have been found guilty of the killing of 10-year-old Damilola Taylor in London six years ago.

Six years and three trials since Damilola's killing shocked the nation, it took an Old Bailey jury six hours and 20 minutes to find Ricky Preddie, 19, and his 18-year-old brother Danny guilty of manslaughter.

The pair, who were aged 12 and 13 when they killed Damilola, may now face life sentences.

Speaking outside court with his wife Gloria beside him, Damilola's father, Richard Taylor said: "We, the family, feel that nobody can ever return our son to us, but it is a great comfort that justice has finally been done for Damilola."

The Taylors kept a calm exterior as they heard the verdicts from the six men and six women jury. Ricky Preddie, however, started shouting and pointing to the judge, jury and police, accusing them of corruption.

He said: "You're corrupt ... you must be mad ... you know nothing." Danny, who had been trying to calm his brother down, looked shocked as he sat down to await his fate.

The judge remanded the men in custody for reports before sentencing them at a date to be fixed.

The Preddies had evaded justice because of failures to find Damilola's blood on their clothing. It came to light four years later during a re-investigation.

The Home Office and the Forensic Science Service, the lab which examined the clothes, are to hold an inquiry into how the evidence was missed.

Today's convictions come after three trials. Four youths aged under 18 were cleared of murder and other charges in 2002.

The Preddies, who were arrested last year, were also cleared of murder and assault with attempt to rob in April. A retrial was ordered when the jury could not agree on manslaughter.

The Preddies were well known for violence and robbery in Peckham, south London, but many witnesses were afraid to give evidence against them.

Damilola bled to death on a stairwell of a rundown block of council flats in Peckham. He had been cut in the left thigh with a broken beer bottle.
