British police have warned of the danger of an attack by republican dissidents in the run-up to Christmas.

British police have warned of the danger of an attack by republican dissidents in the run-up to Christmas.

Anti-terrorist Branch Chief Peter Clarke released a statement today in which he said "London and indeed the rest of the UK, continues to face a range of terrorist threats from a number of different groups.

"The threat from Irish dissident republican terrorism continues to be of great concern to us," he said in a statement urging people to be especially vigilant.

A police spokesman told journalists: "We issue this alert every year and have done so for 20 years. There is no cause for complacency".
