An 11-year-old boy who suffered a multiple fracture of his right arm while playing football on the street has been awarded £8,000 damages against the local authority.

Mr John Doherty, counsel for Daniel Hendrick, told Dublin Circuit Civil Court yesterday that the boy tripped and fell when he caught his foot in an uncovered surface water drain at the side of the street.

He told the president of the Circuit Court, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, that Daniel, of Rialto, Dublin, suffered a multiple buckle fracture of his arm and struck his head on the road. Dublin Corporation did not contest the claim.
