Boy killed in Westmeath crash

Gardaí in Mullingar are today investigating a fatal road traffic collision in which a four-year-old boy died.

Gardaí in Mullingar are today investigating a fatal road traffic collision in which a four-year-old boy died.

The boy was travelling in a SUV which was in a collision with a van on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road shortly after 5pm yesterday.

The SUV was towing a trailer and a van was travelling behind it in the same direction.

The boy was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, Co Westmeath where he later died.

The driver of the SUV and a passenger were also taken to the hosptial. Their injuries are not thought to be life thretenning.

The driver of the van was not taken to hospital.
