A six-year-old boy who was injured when a slab of marble from a fireplace fell on his foot has been awarded €9,500 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.
William Corrigan-Hayden, now eight, had been offered the settlement by Liam Heeney, the Hills Industrial Estate, Lucan, Co Dublin, who installed the fireplace in William’s home at Bohernabreena Cottages, Tallaght, two years before the incident.
Barrister Kevin D’Arcy told Judge Alison Lindsay that in July 2008, William had reached up for a pen on the mantelpiece of the fireplace and as he grabbed the mantelpiece it came away and fell on him. He recovered fully after several months.
