An Armagh schoolboy died today after collapsing at his desk.

An Armagh schoolboy died today after collapsing at his desk.

Within minutes of returning to St Patrick's Primary School on the Loughgall Road after the Christmas holidays Six-year-old Jamie McGee became ill at about 9.05am.

Teachers administered first aid as they waited for an ambulance to take him to Craigavon Area Hospital.

The ambulance arrived within five minutes, and paramedics attended the boy for 19 minutes, but he died despite further treatment at hospital.

Fr Tommy McNulty, who was with his mother and father when their son died, said: "It was a very sad sight for those parents. There were tears as the little fellow was just lying there with his family gathered around him."

Police are investigating the death, and a postmortem is due tomorrow.
