Boy (16) dies in Co Wicklow crash

A 16-year-old boy was killed when the car he was travelling in crashed early this morning in Co Wicklow.

A 16-year-old boy was killed when the car he was travelling in crashed early this morning in Co Wicklow.

A Garda spokesman said the driver, a 20-year-old man, lost control of the car and hit a telephone pole on the N11 at Ballinacor East near Arklow at about 2.30am.

The spokesman said it is believed there were only two occupants in the car at the time and no other vehicle was involved.

The driver was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The scene of the crash has been closed for forensic examination and diversions are in place between Arklow and Jack White's pub.
