A bouncer at Goodtime Charlie's disco in Howth has been given a three years suspended sentence for an assault which left a youth's jaw hanging from his face. William Hanlon (45), Beauvale Park, Artane, was found guilty by a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of assault causing actual bodily harm and of assault with intent to cause actual bodily harm on Mr Darragh O'Brien on January 12th, 1997.

Judge Dominic Lynch placed Hanlon under probation supervision and under a £1,000 bond to keep the peace for three years. He also directed £5,000 be paid forthwith to Mr O'Brien and a further £5,000 be paid to him by June 1st, 2001.
