With white J. P. chosen as Bottle of the Week a few weeks ago, it may seem either partisan or plain lacking in imagination to put another J. P. up on the Portuguese podium now. But no other choice makes sense, when the new J. P. Regional Reserva 1991 (outlets above, usually £5.99) offers such outstanding quality at the price.
The popular young red is still on the market at £3.99, but here you have a far superior wine - one with more intense flavours, nurtured during one year in oak and four in bottle. Spot the difference on the shelf. Basic red J. P. is in a straight-sided Bordeaux bottle with a red label, while the stylish newcomer is in a Burgundy bottle with a pink label.
