Johannesburg - The former South African president, Mr P.W. Botha, will defy an anticipated subpoena to appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and risk imprisonment, Patrick Laurence reports.
"I will not appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission," Mr Botha (81) says in a front-page interview with the Afrikaans newspaper Rapport. "I do not participate in circuses."
