Body of psychiatric patient recovered in Tyrone

The body of a man has been recovered from the Strule river in the centre of Omagh, Co Tyrone.

The body of a man has been recovered from the Strule river in the centre of Omagh, Co Tyrone.

The body is that of a 40-year-old man who was reported missing from the psychiatric unit at the Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, on Saturday morning.

A passer-by spotted the remains in the river in the centre of Omagh at 1.00 p.m. today. The body was recovered by the PSNI underwater search team.

A postmortem will be carried out, although police do not believe the death to be suspicious.
