Glasgow - Police searching for a missing five-year-old boy in Glasgow said they had found a body less than half a mile from his home. Ernest Barrie, from the city's Gorbals area, has been missing since Friday night and a massive air and ground search had been mounted.

A police spokesman at the scene said: "The body of a male child was found, by a police diver, submerged in shallow water at steps 100 yards from Glasgow Rowing Club."

Earlier, an army of 120 police searchers had combed the area hoping for clues to the boy's disappearance.

One possible indication of his movements was disclosed - an apparent sighting by a steward at a rock concert, who believes the boy was one of four youngsters he chatted to for 20 minutes on Friday night. If correct, this would put the last known sighting of the boy at about 9.50 p.m., four hours later than earlier sightings of him outside his home in Caledonia Road.
