Boat returns to harbour after fire on board

A boat which caught fire off the Mayo coast this morning is currently returning to Killybegs harbour.

A boat which caught fire off the Mayo coast this morning is currently returning to Killybegs harbour.

The 16-member crew of the boat, a Spanish fishing vessel, managed to get the fire under control.

It is understood the fire broke out in the hold of the 120-foot vessel while it was fishing about 20 miles west of Achill Island.

After containing the fire, it was decided to return the boat to Killybegs harbour in Co Donegal for further inspection.
