Rugby:Former Harlequins physiotherapist Steph Brennan has been struck off following his role in rugby's infamous Bloodgate scandal.

The decision was made by a Health Professions Council conduct and competence committee in London following a two-day hearing.

Brennan had accepted all but one of the allegations laid before him, denying that “by reason of your misconduct, your fitness to practice is impaired.”

Brennan is currently serving a two-year suspension from rugby, and for the past 12 months has been working in private practice. He admitted to five instances — including Bloodgate — of faking blood injuries.

The doctor who cut winger Tom Williams’ lip to disguise the fake injury and then lied about the incident has received formal warning from the General Medical Council earlier this month.

Wendy Chapman was found guilty of "profoundly serious" misconduct that damaged her profession's reputation, but was allowed to continue working as a doctor.

The bogus injury allowed Harlequins to bring on a specialist goalkicker during the English club's Heineken Cup quarter-final loss to Leinster in April 2009.

Williams, who left the field with fake blood dripping from his mouth, was suspended for four months.

Former Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards was banned from coaching in Europe for three years for his role in the incident and the club was fined €300,000.
