FIFA president Sepp Blatter has reopened the debate over whether to hold the World Cup every two years.

He said: "It may be advisable that the idea of the World Cup every second year shall not be longer closed in a safe where I have lost the combination. I should have a look during the next year if we should open again the safe door."

FIFA has discussed the possibility of holding the event more frequently several times but has never been able to find agreement.
