LINGEN - The Catholic bishops of Germany have decided to refer to Pope John Paul II an internal dispute over whether the Catholic Church should be involved in abortion counselling.

The Pope brought the row to a head last year by urging the church to reconsider whether its approximately 250 counselling centres around Germany should continue to give women the certificate needed to have a legal abortion in Germany.
