Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who narrowly lost this month's national election, said today he would tender his resignation on Tuesday, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Mr Berlusconi told reporters he would hand in his resignation to President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi at about lunchtime on Tuesday, immediately after a scheduled cabinet meeting, ANSA reported.
