Bench warrant issued for woman

AN EAST Clare woman is to plead guilty to causing a breach to the peace by sending Mass cards for the dead to three different people.

At Killaloe District Court yesterday, Chris Lynch, solicitor for Breda Moloney (53), of Ballymalone, Tuamgraney, Co Clare, said Ms Moloney is to plead guilty to breaching the peace by sending the cards.

Ms Moloney is charged with sending a Mass card for the dead on December 9th, 2008, to Grainne Keating, causing her distress and thereby causing a breach of the peace. She is also charged on the same date with sending a Mass card for the dead to Mary Burke and Clare dog warden Frank Coote, causing them distress and thereby causing a breach of the peace.

Ms Moloney faces a charge relating to the care of four goats contrary to the Protection of Animals Act 1991.

Mr Lynch said Ms Moloney would be contesting the animal care charges. She failed to turn up in relation to the case on a previous occasion and also failed to turn up in court again yesterday.

Insp John O’Sullivan told Judge Joseph Mangan gardaí called to the home of Ms Moloney yesterday morning, but there was no one there. Previously, Insp O’Sullivan said there were quite a number of cases in relation to Ms Moloney and a date would have to be set.

In response, the judge issued a bench warrant for Ms Moloney and adjourned the case to Killaloe District Court until February 1st.
