A 38-year-old man has denied explosives charges linked to dissident republican paramilitaries, a Belfast court was told today.

Mr John McQuade, from Ligoneil Place in north Belfast, was accused at Laganside Magistrates Court of possessing an explosive device with intent to endanger life.

The court was told by a detective that Mr McQuade replied not guilty when the charge was put to him. He was remanded in custody.

It is understood the charge relates to an ongoing police investigation into dissident republican activities in the city.
