Bankrupt man brought to court to answer questions on payment

A man who had refused to co-operate with the bankruptcy office has been arrested, writes Fiona Gartland. In what Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne described as an “extremely unusual” case, the defendant, who was adjudicated a bankrupt in July 2008, was arrested in Donegal and taken to Dublin to court.

Chris Lehane, an official assignee in bankruptcy, told the judge he wished to question the defendant about a payment of over €20,000 he may have received following the sale of vehicles after he was made a bankrupt. This money should have been available to the defendant’s creditors, he said.

Ms Justice Dunne directed the defendant to be interviewed by Mr Lehane in the courtroom straight away.
