Gardaí in west Cork are investigating the theft of 92 empty beer kegs found in a field during a search on Tuesday night. They found the kegs when they searched land near Enniskeane. They removed them yesterday to Bandon Garda station for forensic examination.
Garda Supt Eddie Mac Eoin of Bandon station said they believed the kegs were empty when they were taken and were probably stolen for scrap metal. He said gardaí thought the kegs were worth more than €10,000 as scrap metal and they had been in touch with various breweries in an attempt to trace the recovered kegs.
Garda Supt Mac Eoin appealed to anyone with information regarding the kegs or who knew of any pub from where kegs had gone missing to contact Bandon station on 023-885 2283.
