Bad weather halted the search today for two men who have been missing off the coast of Wexford since last week.

The search was due to resume this morning. However, a spokesman for the Department of the Marine said that deteriorating weather conditions prevented divers from searching the wreckage today. Rescue operations are expected to resume tomorrow if conditions improve.

A remotely operated vehicle, which had been damaged during initial searches on Sunday, was deployed from the Granuaile last night to examine the wreck of the Rising Sun.

The vessel has been lying in 50 metres of water south of the Saltees since it sank over a week ago.

Poor visibility has hindered the search for the bodies of the Rising Sun'sskipper, Pat Colfer (37) of Slade, Co Wexford, and New Ross diver Billy O'Connor, who went missing while returning from a dive on the wreck of the boat last Thursday.

Irish Coast Guard shore teams conducted a low-water shore search from Carnsore Point to Dunmore East, and sea searches were undertaken by the Waterford Sikorsky helicopter, the Kilmore Quay lifeboat and the Naval Service patrol ship, LE Ciara.

Volunteer sub-aqua clubs which have offered their services to assist the Irish Coast Guard since last week undertook surface sea searches, but have been unable to participate further due to a one-mile exclusion zone around the wreck.
