A post mortem is due to be carried out later today on the body of a newborn baby that was found abandoned outside Belfast yesterday.

Two schoolchildren, aged 10 and 11, found the body wrapped in a black plastic bag behind the Loughmoss Leisure Centre in Carryduff, Co Down yesterday afternoon.

It is thought the body may have been there for several weeks. The sex of the baby was not revealed.

Police have appealed for the mother to come forward amid concerns for her well-being.
