TWO attempts to pass drugs to prisoners in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday were prevented by prison officers and gardai.

Both incidents happened in the precincts of Court 14 where two men were due to appear before Judge Michael Moriarty.

In the first incident, a remand prisoner was carried from the building after prison staff intercepted a package which was believed to contain cannabis resin.

A few minutes later, several prison officers and gardai struggled with a 24 year old remand prisoner inside the packed courtroom while Judge Moriarty was sitting on the bench. It is believed the man, who faces armed robbery charges, swallowed a package passed to him while he was handcuffed to a warder.
