Aston Villa's hopes of signing Moroccan midfielder Mustapha Hadji from Coventry City have suffered a setback.

Villa manager John Gregory had been hoping to complete an exchange deal involving striker Julian Joachim.

Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson wants Stg£3 million plus Joachim for Hadji.

Richardson said: "Hadji still has two years on his contract with Coventry, while Joachim has only one. The player and cash is the deal as we understand it."

Joachim is expected to become involved in negotiations today following his return from holiday.
