Police in the north have launched a murder inquiry after a man died tonight from injuries he sustained during a brutal beating in Co Tyrone.

The victim, an Asian man in his 40s, was assaulted in Cookstown at the weekend and died in hospital tonight.

Two men, aged 20 and 25, appeared in court today in connection with the incident.

One was accused of committing grievous bodily harm and criminal damage, while the other faced charges of intimidation and criminal damage.

"Those charges will obviously be changed now," a police spokeswoman said.

The two accused were remanded in custody.
