Gardaí have made an arrest today in relation to the murder of a man whose body was found last week in Limerick.

Martin Purcell (54) was found stabbed to death at a flat in the city. Originally from The Fairgreen, Limerick, he lived alone in a rented flat on Wickham Street, where his body was found at about 11am on Friday.

A man (32) was arrested this afternoon in Limerick City and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in Henry Street Garda station.

Mr Purcell, a separated father of two suffered a number of knife wounds, including a stab wound to his neck.
