Army destroys hoax bomb device in Derry

A controlled explosion was carried out early this morning on a suspect device found under a car in Magherafelt, Co Derry.

A controlled explosion was carried out early this morning on a suspect device found under a car in Magherafelt, Co Derry.

The alarm was raised when the device was spotted at Hazeldene Park at around 10.30 p.m.

A British Army bomb disposal team was called and the area was cordoned off. Several families were evacuated.

A controlled explosion revealed the device to be an elaborate hoax, a PSNI spokeswoman said.
