Army bomb disposal experts have been called to deal with a suspect device discovered in Waterford city earlier today.

Gardaí called in the Army explosives ordnance team after the device was discovered in a car in the Bolton Street/Catherine Street area.

Five men are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A Garda spokeswoman said the scene had been evacuated and preserved for examination.
