Armed gang robs security van in Dublin city

Three armed men have robbed at least two cash boxes from a cash delivery van in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

Three armed men have robbed at least two cash boxes from a cash delivery van in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

The raiders intercepted the van at Macken Street, Dublin 2 shortly before 2pm. At least one of the raiders is reported to have had a firearm, although no shots were fired.

After seizing the cash boxes, the raiders left the scene in a BMW car. The Garda Sub Aqua Unit will shortly begin a search of the Grand Canal at Hanover Quay where raiders were seen throwing a number of items while making their escape.

No-one was injured in the robbery.
