Barrister Leonie Reynolds and senior counsel Margaret Heneghan formally received their warrants of appointment as Circuit Court judges during a ceremony in the Supreme Court chamber yesterday, reports Mary Carolan.

Former taoiseach Albert Reynolds, his wife Kathleen, who are the parents of the new judge, and Ms Reynolds’s husband, Garret Baker BL, were among members of the family who attended the brief ceremony.

Austin Power, husband of Ms Heneghan, her mother and her sisters Ann and Mary were also among a large number of family members and friends present.

The Supreme Court was presided over by Chief Justice Mr Justice John Murray while the Circuit Court president Judge Matthew Deery also sat on the Supreme Court bench for the ceremony.

The Chief Justice welcomed Ms Reynolds and Ms Heneghan, their families and friends before calling on them to make the declaration required under the Constitution of all new judges after which he formally handed them their warrants of appointment.
