The Supreme Court yesterday held the Law Society's appointment of an accountant to investigate the practice of a Dublin solicitor was invalid.

The accountant had carried out an investigation to ascertain whether Mr Giles J. Kennedy, of Eccles Street, Dublin, had complied with the society's account regulations and had investigated suspect litigation processed by Mr Kennedy's firm.

Mr Kennedy, who claimed the society had carried out the investigation into suspect litigation without telling him, successfully appealed last April against a High Court finding that the society had carried out a proper investigation.
