Gardaí in Dublin have renewed their appeal for witnesses to the stabbing of a female French student in the city centre on Tuesday evening.

Last night the woman was in a stable condition in hospital with wounds to her neck, arms and hands.

At around 7.30pm on Tuesday, the business student, who has been named locally as Barbara Riouall (23), from Marseilles, arrived home to her apartment at Bertram Court, near Christ Church Cathedral, and was attacked. She was found in the stairwell of the apartment block bleeding from multiple knife wounds.

Gardaí believe the attack was not random, and her attacker may have been waiting for her. Witnesses say they saw a man loitering outside the complex before the incident.
