THE Irish language newspaper Anois is likely to cease publication following a decision by Bord na Gaeilge to grant aid a new paper in Irish, writes Uinsionn Mac Dubhghaill.

The chairman of Anois Teo, Dr Eamonn O hOgain, said it was "very difficult to imagine the newspaper would continue to publish without the grant, worth £3,500 a week.

The board decided to seek public tenders for a newspaper via Irish following a commissioned report which was highly critical of Anois. The successful application was one of 10 submitted. The new paper is due to start publishing in October.
