Lagos - The UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, has come under fierce criticism from supporters of the late Nigerian opposition leader, Mr Moshood Abiola, for his role during negotiations for the politician's release from prison.
Mr Annan earned their anger when he said before leaving Nigeria on July 2nd that Mr Abiola had told him he was not so naive as to expect that he would walk out of jail to be installed president.
A week later Mr Abiola died of cardiac arrest while discussing terms for his freedom with Nigerians and a US delegation.
