MOSCOW - A prisoner already on death row for cannibalism was sentenced to death again by a court in the Altai region of Siberia for trying to eat another cell mate, Interfax news agency reported yesterday.

Andrei Maslich (24), sentenced to death for cannibalism in 1995, was awaiting a reply to his appeal for a presidential pardon when he had an argument with his cellmate at the Barnaul prison in May, and strangled him in the night. Maslich then cut out the victim's liver and tried to boil it in a metal mug on a makeshift fire.
