Allied Irish Bank (AIB) plans to create up to 260 jobs at a call centre in north Dublin.

The bank said it was expanding its direct banking operations with the opening of a new customer contact centre at Lakeview House, Airside Retail Park.

The base is set to open in April 2008 with the recruitment of employees already under way.

"The success of our direct banking business meant that we needed to add to our Citywest and Naas offices," AIB managing director Donal Forde said.

More than 9,500 staff work for AIB Bank in Ireland, operating out of over 275 outlets.
